try magnaport. porting your barrel is permanent tho 0 -
thank you jake for your response, the reason i want a boss is because i want to be able to harmoniclly balance my barrel(s) not necesserally reduce the recoil, although that is an added plus in it of itself, and porting has nothing to do with harmonic balancing. but i do thank you a million for your help

maybe an easier solution is to try different ammo. from what ive seen of the boss system, it really doesnt make a huge difference. and it is LOUD! 0 -
your right jake it is LOUD, but i do have one already on a bar 300 win mag and i love it because i can shoot dif. loads though it for dif. purposes and still drive tacks with any load. thanks again for the info..

Hope this will be of some help to you.
Until my recent retirement, I was the Chief Firearms Test Engineer at Browning Arms. I did all the developmental accuracy testing on the BOSS project (something over 35,000 rds. shot)
If you have access to a competent gunsmith, have him thread the barrel, and, if popssible mill the slot to accomodate the nylon insert (we used commonly found "weedeater" line when we were first developing the system - worked just fine) An inch of threads should be sufficient. You can get the appropriate components, i.e. collar, weight, center (with or without recoil reducing), from Browning for whatever caliber you want. I can tell you how to make the "index" marks on the barrel.
Sounds more complicated than it really is. The major difficulty is finding the right gunsmith, as good ones are a dying breed, unfortunately.
You can e-mail me at: blacarrow@att.net
I'll be glad to help you as my time permits. Am also having intermittant computer problems due to a virus I'm trying to kill.
Best regards,
Rob

Hey Stalion10 I've got a BOSS too and my brother has several and I think they are great, I read Blacarrow's reply and I would suggest the same thing, get all the parts from Browning in Morgan Utah and have your barrel threaded, I also noticed that all guns I've seen BOSS's on are free floated generously. And one final thing you can order the replacement part for the BOSS that doesn't have the muzzlebrake holes in it, not so hard on the ears and all the benefits of the Ballistic Optimizing Shooting System. I've been thinking about doing the exact same thing myself, ( putting a BOSS on a rifle that didn't come with it). 0 -
blacarrow,
Please check your mail!

* Try to look unimportant. The enemy may be low on ammo. *
* Teamwork is essential, it gives the enemy other people to shoot at. *
* If the enemy is in range, so are you. *
* Never forget that your weapon is made by the lowest bidder. *
* When in doubt, empty the magazine. *

To answer your question, the Boss is patented so you're not likely to see aftermarket copies until it runs out.
If someone cuts a thread for you to use a Browning Boss, have the part handyso he can cut you the same fit as on the Browning. My guess would be a class 3 fit. Check whether it's a multiple start thread.0 -
thanks v35, there is a aftermarket one mfg. by que but dont like the way they installs (just clamps on) plus there ugly. have a browning boss in 300 win mag, so it should'nt be had to figure out. but looked all ready for the factory parts but cant find them on the net, new to this internet thing, maybe will figure it out in time and be able to surf like a pro. until then if anybody has info were as to to find, or go about finding a place on the net to get a factory replacment(thats what i originally wanted, and so i should have stated that in my original post, but did'nt) it would be helpful
thanks again for all the help

it's not the type of gun you have in the heat of a battle that counts, only if you have enough ammo for it, lets face it, a gun without ammo is only as good as a base ball bat!!0
