Beretta,Tikka / T3 Rifle????
Been looking to buy a new hunting rifle.
Ive noticed the new Tikka T3 in magazines,etc..
Anyone no first hand how the quality of the rifle is and how well they shoot?
Are there any good or bad (points) experiences with this rifle?
Looking for something that would be capable of killing deer and elk and possibly carabue.
Ive been thinking of getting the 270,WSM,
Again any comments on this caliber ? Ups or Downs?(will mostly be used for whitails), And hopfully a near future elk or mule deer trip.
I own a 270 cal. now , how much more would the 270wsm put out?
I plan on getting the 3x9x40 Burris scope for it.
All comments will be read and are appriciated.

see my post on the 'most accurate rifle out of the box' thread.
Tikka should be the first rifle you look at in that price range.
If there's a negative, they're light and that means the more powerful cartridges have more recoil.
I have T3 in 7mm-08 and 300WSM.
Both excellent guns and easy to shoot well.
Best factory trigger and easy to adjust.

The tikka is made by sako. The t3 is an accurate rifle from what I have been hearing. Some do complain about the plastic magazine but for the money the overall package is a good buy. I have experience with the 695, the model the t3 is replacing. Both have a super smooth action. The 695 was very accurate and I see no reason to expect the same from the t3. My advice on optics is stay away from the burris scope. There are better scopes in the price range. I had a signature that was around $500 brand new. The internals fell apart on the first hunt. After 4 trips back to burris, I asked for the scope to be replaced. They refused. Needless to say my money goes else where. Nikon and leupold and even bushnell deserve a serious look before you go wasting money on a burris. If you will go hit the other forums you will find tons of horror stories about burris optics. I would make leupold my first choice especially if an expensive elk or mule deer hunt is in your plans.
Everyone has a photographic memory. Only some have film.0 -
There is a workup on the T3 in the current issue of Rifle magazine that may be of interst. I am with 99 in that the t3 will be my next purchase, but I will not be dumping my Steyer 96 (whis has a plastic mag I like a lot) to go from .270 to .270 short mag. Maybe if I did not have a .270 at all I might go to the short mag, but likely not. I like Burris scopes a lot as well, and have several. For the price range I think they are the best optics out there, and if there is a negative it is that they have half the internal adjustment (windage and elevation clicks) of other scopes because of the greater size of the lenses. Nikon and Leupold are also worthy scopes in my view. My advice would be to get the T3, but add another caliber to your gun rack.

I own a T3 lite in a 7mm stainless. For the money it is supposed to be the best rifle. They guarantee less than a 1" moa out of the box. They are the only ones doing this that I know of. The first time I picked one up I fell in love with it. The balance is great. Sims makes a limbsaver recoil pad for the T3 now but it may be difficult to get because thay are new. In my opinion, the 7mm would the best caliber for deer/elk/caribou because it is powerful, fast and comes in a wide variety of bullet options.
As for the scope I would strongly recommend the Zeiss Conquest. They are made with german lenses assembled in the US. You basically get top of the line quality at the mid range price. A guy by the name of Mark (HuntElk4@cs.com) sells them cheaper than anybody and he is excellent to deal with.
The only thing I don't like is that Tikka advertises the T3 as sexy and I don't want my wife to think I am out womanizing with my new rifle.[;)]

T3 is a new version of the 595-695 models, but well designed for lower manufacturing costs, which translates into lower selling, or more level selling prices w/o cutting overall quality.
Very good buy for the $$$ spent, especially the scope mounting system.
Have some 595 & 695 in Hunter, Deluxe, and Contintental models. They're well made, and very accurate., so the T3 should follow suite.
Regarding Burris 3-9X, you simply can't go wrong, especially in the Signature series.
Only two disadvantages, but they're actually advantages from a design and quality standpoint:
1. Past models had the adjustment turrents forward positioned (not centered). That actually gave equal or more adjustments(some models) with less pressure on the internals. Looked different, and required more thoughtful mounting.
2. Some actions, and/or bolts handles depending on the angle & bolt lift put the bolt handle real close to the power ring, or would even hit. Simply required, more thoughtful mounting, proper repositioning, or a different ring.
Actually got more FOV because of a larger occular assembly, which was one advantage of a forward mounted adjustments.
The #1 negative comment from 'smiths---"took more time to mount, just can't slap them into place and make money mounting them".
Small thinking vs performance in my mind.
Simply can't change one thing w/o affecting another.
Some models( higher powers) do have less adjustment ranges....but that's good! The larger lens actually improves the light bearing thru the optical axis, AND by limiting the adjustment range keeps the sight picture quality much better.
Too much use of internals DEGRADES sight picture.
That should force the real problem(s) to surface, like mounting system, or stock, or ammo, or even shooting technique....problems.
Common error is to slap bases, rings, and a scope on a rifle, make all kinds of adjustments....before shooting it.
For Ever warranty is simply stated. I like that if something does go wrong, and it happens to them all, they return the same scope, not one that has been returned by some one else, and reworked. Does take longer, but I like having my stuff back.
Personally know of some 'refused' Free warranty attempts because of incorrect mounting, accidents, or misuse.
Have no problem with refusals.
Why should our prices be more because of unfair giveaways.???
Last year, sent three NEW (3) Leupold 36X BR's back. Two (2) Nikon Monarchs, (one went back twice after being 'fixed'). Had my own scopes (four so far) Zeiss Diavari, Redfield Illuminator, Burris Signature, and a Shepherd go back. All because of accidents like...slipping & falling, sling swivel broke, and rope slipped when lowering one from my tree stand landing on the scope.
Not they scope companies fault.
So buy good glass, and take care of it. It will take care of you.
Regarding the 270 Win vs 270 WSM, it's like comparing a 6 cylinder to a big block 8 cylinder with a higher rear gear ratio. More power, and speed.
A 270 Win at the right distance, with the right shot placement, and the right bullet always works.
If you want it....or want the "extra edge" the WSM gives, then buy it.
Be happy, and enjoy it.

I bought a Tikka Whitetail Hunter two years ago (precursor of the T3). Blue with hardwood stocks, it was $470 out the door. I bought the .30-06 model. My only complaint is the recoil pad. But listen to the rest...Out of the box, in the hands of me, who has not fired a bolt action rifle in years, with a brand new Nikkon 3x9x40, not even bore sighted, at 100 yards it was laying rounds on top of rounds. Other owners told me about the accuracy but this was phenomenal. I have never fired anything out of the box that was so accurate. When I buy a .308 for my son, it will be a Tikka. I love that smooth action and quality workmanship. 0 -
do it take the tikka it is a great rifle and a great buy !!!!!! i am going to be purchasing a t3 in .270wsm i currently own a .270 win , great gun but if you take a look at the ballistics of the short mag there is a difference . probably about 200-300 fps of a difference . and almost the same in ft-lbs (energy) . i like the detachable magazines i have had them most of my life and probably will . it is also a very light gun with a very smooth action .
my 2 cents [:)]
p.s. give us a range report if you but something , please0 -
buy it it is a great rifle with an exceptoinal price tag . very accurate as mentioned before . i too am going to be buying on in the near future . mine willl be in .270 wsm . i currently own a .270 win , it is a great gun but if you take a look at the ballistics the short mag beats it out by about 150 - 300 fps . also has more energy too . hope you enjoy what you get .[;)]
