I have a good lead on a Remington rollingblock rifle in 43 Spanish. The seller has NO ammo for it but he tells me that brass can be made from 45-70 caseings. Is this possible and can any one give a mild loadin for this cal.??

I am a firm believer that these guns, designed for black powder, should, for history and safety reasons, use black powder. Sure there are safe smokeless loads, but I recommend a case full (after settling, to seat depth) of FFG powder, with grease cookie and possibly a wad.

The Old Western Scrounger carries BP .43 Spanish, but they're a bit pricey....

Check out a copy of Cartridges of the World ( Barnes and McPherson ) as they have a good layout of what the original loadings were for these and other cartridges. There are not a lot of different loads, just a really good approximation of the original loading be it military or commercial.

I had an old rolling block in .43 Spanish. I started thinking about what it would cost to shoot. .43 Spanish dies were something like 65.00. Cases were 50.00 for twenty. Bullets could'nt be bought cast so you had to buy a mold another 65.00 or so. Im going by memory on the prices from about 10 years ago but after looking at the costs I rebarreled to 45-70.

As jonk says, black powder is always acceptable to use in this cartridge and is what I have been using. I have just emailed Accurate Arms (www.accuratearms.com) and asked them for suggested loads of smokeless for the .43 Spanish and 7mm Rolling Block rifles. You can do the same, or I can post here if and when I get something back. Since you asked for loads, I assume you are reloading and have the necessary dies, etc. If not, Lee makes an inexpensive set (I have an extra set) and cast bullets are available from several sources. The load that I have been using since the late 1960's is one that I got out of a NRA Illustrated Handloading Guide. It consists of 43 grains of FFG Black Powder and 5 grains of IMR4759 powder(the 4759 goes in first over the flash hole to give better ignition and cleaner burning of the black powder.) This is a reduced load so you will want to use a good filler of your choice(grex, kapok, etc.) Use a good wad and grease cookie also. I have also switched to paper patched bullets the last few years, they tend to be a bit more accurate and do not lead the barrel.
