Cleanig then shooting

There are two major schools of thought on this.

One school advocates not clenaing after zeroing.

The other says that for hunting accuracy cleaning makes little difference unless the rifle has another problem.

Best way to solve this. Take your rifle to the range and zero it while spacing your shots so that the barrel does not warm up. Then clean it and see if the point of impact has shifted an amount that would throw you off hunting. If it does, fire a couple more rounds and the "zero" should return then just leave it that way. If you can't get back to "zero" then look for other problems.

If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!

for target/match shooting you clean the barrel every time as these barrels are far superior in thier tolerances to factory barrels.

For hunting,..sight it in,..and leave it alone until after hunting season.

why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....
    Got Balistics?

Well everyone has an opinion so here's mine! I use this method for all of my big game rifles and you kind of get to know each gun as well and any little tricks they have. I normally shoot my guns throughout the year so I shoot'em and clean'em a lot, but let's say you shoot your deer rifle and make sure it's on the paper where you want it I then clean mine and shoot one 3 shot group and put it away to hunt with. Normally the shots after cleaning ( in my guns) aren't vastly different than the shots previous to cleaning. If you are talking about match target shooting then ask some of the competitors for better advise. Each of my guns is a bit different one .243 is a little fussy about how clean it is at about 10 shots the groups start to open up and I have to really get it clean and the groups go back down to .75"(nice groups for an ultra light carbine). My 30/06 on the other hand can be shot 50 shots or so and no appreciable deterioration of accuracy, then when I clean it I rarely have any trouble with a tight 3 shot group after, just shoot your gun a lot and get to know it.
