A .22 or .223 won't work against big foot.
You need to get a Gyrojet.

Dude... that didn't help me 1 bit. The bigfoot thing was meant to be funny. Please help with some FAQ's for a newbie. Ohhhh... ah... word to your mother. 0 -
The Game and Fish or Natural Resources deparments of most states conduct hunter Education classes. That would be a good first step in learning safe gunhandling. Likely your state has such a program, or can refer you to an NRA program. Much of hunter saftey and gunhandling is better taught hands on and not read from a book. .22 is a rimfire cartridge, like a .22 rifle right, shoots a bullet of about 40 grains. The .223 is a centerfire cartridge and while not large, it is huge compared to the .22. Bullet weights are greater and velocity is greater as well. And I disagree, either is ample for Bigfoot as not much gun is needed to shoot myths.
There are many books out there that will get you started with basic information. Hit www.bookfinder.com and search for O'Connors The Rifle Book or The Hunting Rifle. One of my favorites is Carmichaels Book of the Rifle, but a little more difficult to find and a little pricer. Either of the O'Connor books can be had good used for under $20.

I've always considered gun magazines a "FAQ for newbies". I can't tell you how much I have learned from reading "American Rifleman" & "Guns & Ammo" over the years.

The subject of Firearms is wide. Maybe you could start with your specific interest. Is it in target shooting, hunting, collecting or self defense? Is it rifles, pistols, shotguns, automatic, antique or modern
firearms or military rifles, pistols shotguns and automatic weapons?
You could find volumes on each category in a good library including perhaps Firearms 101.
To answer your question of caliber, it generally relates to the rifling, groove diameter of the corresponding gun, often not exactly and sometimes not at all. The other part of ammunition is the size of the cartridge case which can be, but not necessarily is,an indirect indication of the power behind the bullet.
There is ammunition of the same caliber, as in your question, having vastly different power levels.0 -
I would pick up "Trolls and Guns."
Very informative.

You may want to charge more than a "small" fee. [}:)]
