ruger min-30 vs. SAR-1 accuracy
I am looking at 7.62x39 semi-auto rifles that are good/fun ARs, but will also double as a nice deer rifle for shorter ranges. How does the accuracy of these two rifles compare? Are there any other guns in this price range that are worth looking at? How do they compare for scope mounting? We own a mini-14 and I love it, but you gotta love that classic AK look.

Both are good shooters, but I believe that the SAR is a little more rugged.
Optics options are a little more straight forward w/ more choices for the Ruger.
At 300 yds and in they pretty much hang together on accuracy, although for hunting I would not recommend more than around 150 yds.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0 -
Either would be ok out to 50-60 yds, after that(on average) the groups open up too much to consistantly provide good shot placement. Yes this caliber will effective kill a deer out to ~150yds but there are much better choices out there. If you stick with the 7.62x39, one of the better SKS's would be a better choice. Also for just a little more than the cost of a new mini-30, you could get a Browning BAR Composite in .308, or look for a Polytech/Norinco M14/s. I just went down this route with a mini-30 and got rid of it as quick as I could. Most guns can out shoot the user but the mini's can not. 0 -
Go with the SAR1. My 2 cents [8D]
