FOUND AN OLD COLT 1911
I found an older looking Colt 1911A1 in a safe (family member passed away). I am not a huge gun guy but I do own a 1911. If anyone could help me identify how old it is I would appreciate it. The serial number is 3709023. It says "property of US Army" on the slide. There is a "AA" stamped on the side. There is a small amount of surface rust. I am sure it has been in the safe for some time. Though I would not sell it but if anyone could make a guess on value that would be great.

The "AA" marking normally denotes rework at the Augusta Arsenal, during W W II.
It's not clear from your post?, but the marking is usually on the frame rather then the slide.
Here's a link that goes into detail regarding these reworks.

Arsenal rebuilds generally sell in the $500-800 range.
Guns kept in a safe often rust unless you prevent moisture by use of a Goldenrod or dessicant pack. You may be able to remove really light surface rust with Kroil (or some other gun lube containing oil) & a nylon brush. 0000 bronze or steel wool works well on blue guns, but will burnish parkerizing, which is probably the finish on your gun.

Are you sure that's the correct Serial #? It's well outside the range of M1911A1s.
Highest A1 Serial # was 2660318 (an Ithaca).0
