Buy the Ruger. There are several very good aftermarket triggers available. Take the Ruger to a gunsmith and have one installed.

If you want accuracy get a CZ-527, I have one in .223 and love it, the dealer also had .22 Hornets and I thought seriously about one of them as well. He had actual targets with amazing groups with using Hornady 35gr V-Max bullets. And no you can't adjust the Ruger trigger...Replacement.

    Hello plains scout...

I like the Ruger, but regardless of which rifle you get in, have it reamed out to 22 K-Hornet[^]. Any reasonably skilled gunsmith can do it for you, and you will really enjoy the added performance... about 13-15% gain over the standard Hornet[:p]. It is also MUCH, MUCH easier to reload[:)]. Forming K-Hornet brass is very simple... just shoot the standard Hornet cartridge in your K-Hornet chamber.

A K-Hornet chamber will extend your brass life if you reload also. I'm thinking about the CZ myself.

I've shot two of the SS/lam Rugers in 22 Hornet that friends have and was not impressed by either one other than the looks. They both had terrible triggers from the factory that are not adjustable and neither was very accurate. One of them also has a NEF single shot 22 hornet that badly outshot his Ruger out of the box. -- You can get the Rugers to shoot but have to tweak them. -- For accuracy out of the box I think the CZs are a better buy, but don't know if you can get the finish you want in that caliber..............[8D]

The CZs are beautiful and they have a set trigger.

I agree with Temblor and VZ35. I do not agree with automatically reaming a Hornet out to K-designation. It IS a good enhancement for FPS and a slight help in case life but it kind of defeats some of the purpose i.e. light report! This is a nice quiet round that you can do a lot with in slightly congested/populated areas without irking the anti-gun types. If you want that much more performance, get a .222 Remington and load down a tad! This is also a wonderfully accurate round that has never lost its' appeal to varmint OR target shooters and is still available in many factory guns! What about a Savage with accutrigger? I'm not sure off hand if they offer it in Hornet but it might be worth a try; the 2 I've shot ( both ,223 Rem.'s) seemed pretty darned impressive for the money and the trigger was sweet AND adjustable! Also, the CZ is a GORGEOUS gun...would love to have one but they are a bit pricey for my bankaccount!! I am currently shooting a Savage 340 with an old Weaver 4x that prodoces consistant "1 or less groups at 100 yards!! Entire set-up cost me about $325 last year and I don't think I could have done much better than this 50 + year old set-up!!!!! No disrespect meant to the poster regarding the Hornet-K conversion; I just think it is a little bit superflous (sp?) when the triple deuce is much more flexible and stuningly accurate in a good gun! Have fun and decide for yourself!

    None taken...

However, I disagree that the K-Hornet is noticeably louder than the standard Hornet. My primary reason for suggesting the K-Hornet conversion is the cost & ease issue. Factory 22 Hornet ammo is not cheap, so I assume that someone who likes to shoot this cartridge is a reloader. If that is a correct assumption, then it is considerably easier (and less expensive in the long run) to reload for the K-Hornet. Case life for the K-Hornet is at 3X that of the standard Hornet. Lastly, my other two varmit rifles are 222 Rem Mags (Rem 722 and a Rem 700 BDL Varmit Special).

Certainly nice pieces you have there Bert; Remington surely makes fine rifles. I have not shot muck K in my day and was not aware the case life would extend that much! Wow! I still see one other drawback...that being the Hornet-K is not readily available as a commercially loaded round; but then you covered that ground when you mentioned that the gentleman is likely a handloader. I just wonder what kind of a pickle you might find yourself in in the middle of nowhere shooting prairie dogs and cannot get access to your presses and have to rely on the local gunshop that likely will have 22 Hornet but no Hornet-K!? Potatoe potato I suppose as I think we BOTH have some good points here! Thanks for the friendly debate and look forward to hearing more from you and the rest of the posters in the future!

I do reload so I am going to not shoot many factory rounds. I do it better and cheaper than the big guys.

I really want this gun to carry in my pickup and not rust but be ready for that skunk, coon, gentlemanly porcupine, badger, beaver, and other nasty creatures.

I have heard the 22 Hornet can be difficult to reload.

"A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I
advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives
boldness, enterprise, and independence to the mind. Games played with the
ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no
character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of
    your walks." Thomas Jefferson

    Hello Plains...

Yes, it is. It takes a lot of "touch", and learning how to properly lube the case before resizing (even just a little too much case lube with dimple the case badly). The Hornet case is real thin (lightweight), and if you don't do exactly everything right, you will crumple or crunch it. A standard Hornet requires full length resizing, whereas with the K-Hornet, all that is needed is neck sizing.
