Ruger-Single Six
I recently acquired an older single six that some idiot sawed the tip of the barrel off. I'm guessing it's about 15 years old. My question is: can I change out the barrel and replace it with a 9-1/2"? I have plenty of mechanical talent and am not afraid to try it. But first, can it be done and second should I have a gunsmith do it since I'm concerned about alignment as it relates to the new barrel and the old cylinder?

Contact Ruger and tell them your story. They have a SUPER service department, and will probably charge you a minimal fee to "rebuild" your single six.

I agree w/ Salvage ... talk to Ruger then decide the course of action.
Ruger cost even w/ shipping will probably be about equal to what a gunsmith would charge you, but it sure don't hurt to get pricing from that sector, especially if you have a gunsmith that you've done business with in the past.
Then you have the options all staked out ... Ruger Cost, Gunsmith's cost, and the cost of the part and your doing it.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0 -
if you Ruger is a old model 3 screw then
remember IF you send your old model into Ruger they will convert it to the new model with the transfer bar, they will return all of the old parts to you , just some thing to think about, if its a new model single six then never mind [;)]0
