there are several after market triggers available (brownells.com), or spring kits (not as good but less $$$).

I have replaced the triggers on both my 77MKII's with Timney triggers. They are spendy about $70-80 and best installed by a smith ((you can do it but it is a pain). They adjust down below 3# (not sure how far below, mine at 3.5#) and they break like a glass rod. Love 'em!

My take on this? Sell the Ruger and buy a Savage with accutrigger in varmint configuration! I have heard more complaints about lousy trggers and mediocre accuracy on 77's than you can can shake a stick at! Every decent Ruger 77 I've ever fired was worked on to the N th degree!! Nice LOOKING gun but who cares if it can't hit a bull in the a** from 50 feet!!

For He Dog: Not trying to step on toes, but I had looked at a Ruger in .308. I loved it. But, the gun store said the Ruger accuracy was inconsistent. Some shoot fine and another one may not. Opinions are like faces, everyone has one and some two. So, I was wondering what you think of their accuracy?

Barrels of Rugers are bought from the lowest bidder, At one time Ruger was paying $6.00 for their barrels. I heard some where that Ruger is Now making their own barrel's.

Never ceases to amaze me that Ruger makes such an otherwise attractive rifle with such seemingly poor componentry! I keep hearing from people "I love my Ruger!...and timney trigger, and Krieger barrel...". Why not just buy a custom gun to begin with and spend the money once?!?!? Excellent pistols Bill, but your rifles..?

I owned one m-77 mark II the trigger broke @ 5.5#,no kidding. I called Ruger and they were not to interested in working on it. Just before I traded it, wrote them just to let them know what I thought of the new mark II rifles. After I told them that my sons $30 Daisy Red Rider had a better trigger than their $500 rifle, they became more than willing to get the rifle taken care of for me. I refuse to own another mark II simply because you have to drop another $100 for a trigger job even before you scope it up. I do own 3 tang saftey m-77's only because they have adjustable triggers. Mighty sad to drop that kind of money and not be able to work the trigger down nicely.
