Good Japanese guns, but no more than a shooter.
Balance and workmanship are better than a Stevens (in my opinion) and put it a grade up from those offerings. Still, it carries the stigma of a Japenese gun just the same as do the late Browning A-5's.
Condition involves many details and "excellent condition" means little. A classic Smith, Ithaca, Baker, or the like can be had for under $500.00 (12 ga. in good mechanical condition). 20's bring more money in these guns, but I don't know that it would transfer to your SKB.
I guess what I'm saying is that if I were to run across such a gun and it caught my eye (fit & condition), I'd snap it up at $450.00. I'd think about it at $550.00 and probably buy a domestic Smith or Fox if the price went above that.
Still, your call and a pretty nice little double.

I have a Ithaca/skb 100 sxs 12 ga. This is the same gun as the skb 100. It is very well balanced and well made side by side. It has extractors and not ejectors which makes it nice for cowboy action shooting. The stock is beautiful checkered walnut. SKB doesn't make any poor quality firearms. This gun beats the quality of the savage/fox all to heck. I owned one on those too but sold it.

I have owned 1 SKB(12 gauge) and 2 Ithaca/SKB's( 12 gauge and 20 gauge) and loved them all. My daughter choose the 20 gauge for herself over the Browning, the Remington, and the 12 gauge Ithaca/SKB. The 12 gauge Ithaca/SKB I gave to my son in law. I kept the 12 gauge SKB for myself. I used all three and I love them all. I never had one to misfire or fail for any reason in the field. I'll take a SKB side by side anyday and never look back. My SKB has had several thousand rounds fired through it on the skeet, dove, duck and trap field and its still going strong; enough said. 0
