    My only suggestion would be that if it's that far gone to put it on the mantle as a conversation piece. My guess is there's a pretty good story to go with this gun being out in the elements for 8 years, then recovering it. I'd like to hear it myself.

    Agreed, it would be cheaper to buy a good used Anaconda. From what yo say it appear there would be no usable parts on the gun, so you would be building from scratch.

    Not gonna be worth the time and effort.....and No Competent gunsmith will touch it...When they lay in the open elements and the springs are rusted and the Pins are rusted and and and and...etc......Shadow Box it and make up a good story about how Chief Winnemucka carried this Colt during the battle of Gitchie Goochi Gulch...bla bla bla...!

    I agree with all the responses you've ahd and would also ask was this your gun or one you 'found'. If 'found' you might want to think about showing it to the police in the area found (I know, I know, he'll never see it aqain) but God only knows what this thing might have been used for and having it found in your posession might be less than a great idea if you do not know its' history, infamous or not!! Good luck and think about it if it is indeed a found weapon. If not than I like the shadow box idea!

    mrdropcloth;
    There is a point at which nothing can be done. It sounds as if this Anaconda has long past that point. Long term exposure to the elements do far more than rust steel. It changes it on the molecular level, Heat treatment becomes non-existant. This gun is so much scrape now. The cost to "refurbish" a gun that would never be more than a wall hanger or conversation piece, would be much, much, higher than it would be worth. I doubt seriously, any pistol smith would be willing to do the job, as the possibility that some one might attempt to fire it after the refurb. It's a shame this fine revolver got lost, but to refurbish such a decomposed gun would be worse. Sorry about that, John

    Colt might be so nervous about having this potential hazard out there, they might make you a good offer. Ruger did and I got a brand new Super Blackhawk out of it for free. The gun I turned in was a 20 year old, old model Blackhawk 44 Magnum. Call Colt and tell them you intend to rebuild it but have concerns for your safety. Can they do anything for you?
    Good luck
