I just got a new marlin 22 mag. I was looking in the owners manual it says you can shoot 22LR, 22Mag, 17HMR, and 17Mach 2 rounds. I was just wondering how this is possible, the 22LR I thought would split the casing in the chamber and the 17's are a smaller cal. 0 -
I'm not familiar with that model, and have not visited the web site. But...
Many revolvers have interchangeable cylinders, North American Arms coming to mind first
(they have many models in their small line with interchangeable cylinders).
If Taurus Tracker has a cylinder for the mag made for your gun, it is so that you can shoot the mag cartridge. It is a great cartridge. Deadly; especially shotshells on snakes and small vermin.
My 2 ? (even though I didn't investigate before answering).

new guy...
I will add, that Ruger has been making 22 caliber revolvers for nearly 50 years that have interchangeable cylinders for both 22 LR and 22 WMR.

Give Taurus a call. It may be cheaper to trade it in. I own a 6" Tracker in 22 Mag. Only negative on the gun was the trigger. The double action was 15.2 lbs and the single was 6.5lbs. I had a gunsmith polish the sear, remove 99% of the creep, and adjusted the double action down to 10lbs and the single to 3lbs. It is a whole lot more fun to shoot now. I tried Federal, CCI, and Winchester X ammo and the tightest groups were with the Winchester X hp. 0 -
I believe that you may run into some problems, and the only people that can answer that for you are the folks at Taurus.
Often times when switching cylinders some minor fitting needs to be done ... not a big deal for a good gunsmith. Revolvers that come from the factory with interchangeable cylinders are factory fit.
Trackers, I believe, have the cylinder press fit on the cylinder yoke, so this adds another dimension.
You may very well find out you can't do this, or that the expense is greater than you want to bear. In that case, consider Ruger or another brand that offers interchangeable cylinders.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0 -
Thank you all for your input, I think I'll will go with Ruger single action with the interchangeable cylinders. Sounds like the safest and most common sense option. 0 -
If it were a .22 mag to begin with I'd say yes. Were it's a .22L.R. I don't know it's doubtful. All guns that I know of that are combos the bore dia. is slightly larger because of the .22mag.

I'd have it factory-fitted if possible. Just don't shoot LR's from the magnum cylinder Most likely the cases will split. A LR casing will actually fit inside a Magnum. May not sound like much with a .22, but I'd not risk my eyes on it. Good luck, and I love the Rugers......... 0
