New tripple 7 powder
Does anyone have any experience with this new powder in black powder cartridge guns?

Yes it's a good substitute and is generally about 10% more potent so back your loads down and work back up.
Only problem with the substitures is use with flintlocks where ignition problems can occur. Some folks add a firing charge of 4-5 grains of 3f BP then finish with the substitute and the pan charge is 3 or 4f BP. Given that you still have to thoroughly clean the gun I just don't see a benefit w/ flintlocks over straight BP.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0 -
I love the stuff--although the problems noted about flintlocks are true.
In cap and ball and in cartridge...good boom, good smoke, still smells funny (different but still funny) and easy clean-up--the best of all worlds.0 -
Can you leave airspace in a cartridge loaded with 777? This is a big no-no with blackpowder. 0 -
Don't know about airspace-was always told that it was a no-no, so I never tried leaving any. Triple 7 is a great subsitute, easy clean up with soap and water, followed by a bore butter swab. As Contender man suggested, back the loads off about 10%. I used to use 100 grains of black powder in my 50 cal. Hawken replica, but with triple 7, 100 grains cuts the patches, where 90 grains is just about right.
