Lawful Purchase and assembly of part kits
I have been considering building an AMD-65 through purchasing a parts kit and a receiver serperately. I relize I must have a non-folding stock and at least a 16' barrel. Though, I am unclear after reading the law wether or not it is legal to assemble this type of firearm. The following seems to state that it is legal to obtain a kit but I can't find or understand if it is legal to assemble the kit using a seperately purchased receiver. It seems to me that once assembled into a functional firearm and possessed by me( a civillian) it would be illegal. Any help or advice is well received and appreciated. Thank you all
Sec. 925. - Exceptions: Relief from disabilities

I would think that he's referring to a U.S. made receiver..[?]

Yes, they are legal to assemble as long as you meet the guidelines such as 16" barrel and non folding stock etc.
I measured it and cut it twice, and it's still too short!0 -
Yes, I am referring to a US made receiver. Would I then need to have it inspected by any LEO to make it legal? My good friend is a State trooper but I don't want to ask him all these "dumb questions!" due to the fact I know he's gonna onager and say what do you want to build one of those for?! Thanks guys[:I]

madmarc is correct. As long as the end product has less than 3 of the evil assault weapon features, you may build away. The receiver will have to be purchased through a dealer the same as a complete firearm...I really should not be giving advice in the "experts" forum, but I believe this is correct...

The rules are really simple ...
... but you better get them right:
1. 16" Barrel ~ minimum length
(I would make it 16.25 to be safe)
2. If you have a detachable mag:
Not more than 1 evil feature ...
... the evil features are:
(1) Pistol grip
(2) Threaded barrel
(3) Flash hider
(4) Collapsable/retractable/folding stock
(5) Bayonet lug
(6) Granade Launcher/mount
3. You may not have more than 10 foreign made parts which are on the following list:
(1) Frames, receivers, receiver castings, forgings or stampings
(2) Barrels
(3) Barrel extensions
(4) Mounting blocks (trunions)
(5) Muzzle attachments
(6) Bolts
(7) Bolt carriers
(8) Operating rods
(9) Gas pistons
(10) Trigger housings
(11) Triggers
(12) Hammers
(13) Sears
(14) Disconnectors
(15) Buttstocks
(16) Pistol grips
(17) Forearm handguards
(18) Magazine bodies
(19) Followers
(20) Floorplates
