a lot of it[;)][:D]. I like hydra shoks, golden sabres, and ive been wanting to try that extreme shock stuff, but i cant see spending a buck a round. i'd go with something pretty heavy because the 9mm really isnt.

Federal Hydra Shock +P 124 gr JHP, I think this is a effective load.

You have to consider where you may use it. In an urban area I prefer frangible ammo, like Magsafe or Glaser; I can't take a chance on shooting my neighbor by accident.

The federal hydra shock 124 or the Speer Gold Dot would both be good choices. The Speer bullet will out penetrate the federal but the federal would not be as likely to travel to an unwanted target if you missed or glanced it somewhere in an urban setting...........[8D]

There are a lot of JHP loadings to choose from and you probably would be well served by almost any one of them. I like Hydrashocks and Starfires myself. Just make sure that your gun will function reliably with whatever you choose. And shoot enough of them to be comfortable with them and know where they impact in your particular gun.

Stay away from the heavier bullets. You just don't get the velocity/energies to match what you get from lighter bullets when firing out of the shorter barrels of a carry gun.

    I carry Corbon 90 grain or 115 grain +P.

Corbon also uses powder blends that produce minimal muzzle flash--try shooting in the dark/low light and you'll see what I mean.

i havent heard of too many muggers or burglers wearing body armor. besides, there are different levels of armor, depending on what type of protection they provide.

if you are worried about body armor then shoot for the head or use a fn-five seven(i think they are for police only)which will penetrate a kevlar helmet.

[8D]All of the above. MAKE SURE YOU PUT IT IN THE "A" ZONE.[^]

with one famous exception, criminals aren't in the business of breaking into your house with body armor on and loaded for bear.

    why?

cause if they could afford body armor and had that much of a clue they would be going for bigger jobs than a home break-in or personal assault style robbery.

besides, as long as the round knocks them down, then you can follow up to the head or crotch.

best load? the one you shoot the best with. Shot placement as what you're after as much as penatration, etc.

dont count on a 9mm "knocking anybody over" if you are looking into a home defense gun, i would consider a shotgun. a bellyfull of OO buck will change just about anybodies mind about needing your tv.

Jake does have a point there... 9mm is a bit light for any knockdown.

or if your set on a handgun, go get a 357 with 125 gr jhp or a 45.

Yes, it is a little know fact that Federal Hydra-shok will penetrate bullet proof vests. If you are concerned about having to shoot at people wearing body armor then I suggest you carry Hydra-shoks. Do not try for "head shots" as suggested above--the head is too small of a target--there is a good chance you'll miss and the officer person you're shooting at is likely to be able to fire back at you; besides if you have the armor piercing Federal Hydra-shoks you don't need to risk head shots since the rounds will easily penetrate any bullet proof vest he/she is wearing. Of course, even better than using a 9mm gun, is using a 22lr gun--yes, that's what I said! The 22lr bullet is a lot smaller than the 9mm--look at them side-by-side yourself--and even though it is less powerful, the smaller size makes it easier to use if you have to shoot through bullet proof vests--but there is a "trick" to make it work well: You have to "grease the bullet"--I use Crisco; just smear a "glob" on the bullet and load it in the gun and you'll be ready to gun down anybody no matter what they're wearing! Hope this information helps.
