range bags
I am a beginning handgun shooter and as I have acquired two pistols, I have a lot of gear when I go to the range. I need a bag or case that I can transport my gear/junk safely. I would like a leather one for looks and feel. Thanks for your time and opinions.

A big tackle box works well too. They also make gun boxes that are similar but don't include all those little shelves and compartments.

Go to Cabela's shooting catolog, you'll find tons of ideas there. I just love Cabela's I recommend them all the time. Or try them online www.cabelas.com 0 -
I had a cheaper leather bag...and it didn't last. Saw one that would today at gun show and it was over $300. The best I have used are the ballistic nylon. These can be found at various places. The toughest I have used is a a coleman bag made for fishing that has a hard plastic bottom. So far, even 250 rounds of 12ga plus small gauge at a time hasn't done anything to it. Ammo, guns, junk get heavy fast. 0 -
If you set on leather be prepared to pay out some serious dollars because the cheaper bags will not hold up ... guns and ammo, plus all the other goodies put quite load on your carry bag.
Ammo cans and tool boxes are good choices. The heavy weight nylon with double stiched and reinforced seams and solid bottom liners are the best overall choice.
Cabelas, Midway or Cheaper Than Dirt are good mailorder sources. In fact I think Midway has some in their inventory reduction/clearance sale area.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0 -
thanks for the help guys. the leather ones are very expensive. i think i will wait for the next gun show and look for a used leather bag. again thanks 0 -
Shooters Connection "Tournament Series Shooting Bag" Internal bag holds two pistols in zippered pockets and other gear and comes out of the main bag. Five other pockets, water bottle & holder, detachable brass bag, and mag pouches sewn inside bag. Great bag and I think they retail for about 135. 0 -
Chinook, Is the name in reference to the fish or the helicopter, and where are you located? John
I might not always tell you the truth, but I will never lie to you!0 -
Take a look at Bagmaster. 0 -
I-Shot makes a real nice Mini-Range Bag that might be your cup of tea, and they also make larger bags if you like to weight lift before you shoot.
