Foreign Cartridge ID
In 2001 I was in Kuwait and found a brass cartridge case that I havent been able to ID. It was found off base in a area that looked like the locals used as a informal plinking area. Its a straight walled round that is similar to a 357 Magnum case, only longer. I would say around 1/4 of a inch longer, and between a 30 caliber and 38 caliber. I don't have anything to measure the mouth but it looks a little smaller than a 38 cal hole. Its rimfire, the only markings is on the rim and it looks kinda like a atom symbol, I cant really describe the marking, and it is brass. There was a bunch of these laying around, all spent, so I havent seen one loaded. Any ideas???

Sounds like a garden gun shot cartridge. Made in several sizes, 9mm being very common in Europe.
Cute little shotguns to shoot. They are mostly rimfire too.

I never would have thought of a shot cartridge, thanks for the input.
Anyone else?

i agre with the "GARDEN GUN" rimfire. they are very popular in italy and other european nations. FIOOCHI and ELEY still produce it. typicly the guns are hinged at the action, and fold in half for ease of storage or cased carry in the field. best regards, mike.

There's a 9mm RF shot cartridge, still loaded by Fiocchi (and possibly RWS) which matches your description fairly closely. Typically, these have a slight swelling in the head to match the profile of the original paper tube / brass base design. The headstamp description has me baffled, though; I've never seen something like that and my references are packed away.

You might find your headstamp on this page, the symbols start about 1/2 way down the page. http://www.poszukiwanieskarbow.com/greg/ammo_4.htm
Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.0 -
Thanks for all the input so far. I am unsure about it being a variation of a 9mm cartridge, other than possibly bullet diameter but that would be where the resemblance ends. Due to how long it is I doubt its a revelover cartridge, my guess would be a carbine round. In fact the case reminds me of a 30 carbine round a lot. The headstamp looks a little like a star, but I am pretty sure its suppose to be some kinda atom symbol. Thanks for the link tailgunner, I looked and so far havent found it. Interesting..

Here's a site with a ton of foreign rimfire headstamp pics:

Thanks TXS, I found it listed in your link, or at least the headstamp anyway. Its evidently made in "Nouvelle Cartoucherie Des Servillers, France". So evidently its a french military round. Thanks

Thats a cool site TXS!!Alleno, I doubt its a "Military" round, and would go with a Garden Gun or Rook rifle.

Alleno, except for some contract purchased .22 LR for training / competition, there are no military rimfire cartridges today. The last one in service was the Swiss Vetterli (.41 Swiss) some 100 or so years back. I'm still pretty sure the ones you found are 9mm loads.

Ok, so evidently its a French made commercial round. Thanks for all of the input guys, this will probably be getting locked soon.
Thanks
