The 6.5 is a fine cartridge, close to the .270. Used in Sweden's military arms for a lot of years. Has a good reputation for accuracy and low recoil. Is used by the Swedes to take everyting up to and including moose. I have a Model 96 Mauser in this chambering and it shoots very well, Thank You. Best accuracy is with Norma ammunition. Best bullet weight is 140 grain. If the price is right and it fits you, I would recommend buying it.

Cool, thanks. I found some at "Cheaper than Dirt". Pretty expensive ammo. Probably won't buy the rifle. A little steep at 2 grand, but I know what I am looking at now. Thanks again.

the 6.5x55 swedish mauser we have is a very good rifle. my dad bought it out of a barrel in the wards store in 1958. i think he paid fifteen dollars for it. it was the ski mountain troops rifle. he cut the military stock down and had the bolt turned. still has the original scope he put on it. this gun was built for my mother and she could really shoot it. when my dad stopped hunting, i tried to buy it from him several times. one day he came out to the house and gave it to my son. i was impressed and it set a standard that someday i will look forward to doing the same. for a long time ammo was hard to get and reloading was the 140 gr. i think this caliber is making a come back due to it's accuracy and it's ease of shooting, recoil, ease of carrying and etc. 120 gr. and some heavy alaskan, i think 170 gr. round nose are also available. i was on the sako.finn web sight and read where they had won some big european shoot with this caliber. 10 rounds in a sub 5 in. at 1000 yrds. i personally feel it is a bit light for elk, they have been taken with less. it's nice to get it out once and awhile just to work the action and look through the scope. lot's of good memories pop up. best of luck, dave.

Hey Manderson, you might try looking at the Ruger line-up. They chamber in 6.5x55.
As for loads bullet weights from 85gr up to 160 and vellocities up to 3200fps with 100's. Not as fast as some super zappers but down range ballistics are outstanding.

the 6.5x55 is available from most major ammo makers. it's plenty powerful for deer size game and is used a lot in europe for target shooting.

Two reasons that 6.5X55 is so high priced.Num 1 it's a Deluxe and num.2 Sako no longer makes left hand rifles.I have one in that cal. not a deluxe, but it's still worth a bunch.

Reloading manuals usually have a drawing and several loads:

Here are some loads, a selection of 95:

    Best.

ATF...I'm looking at Sako's web site and they still advertise the left handed Sako model 75.

As I look at it closer, I would say that they probably only offer the one model "Sako Hunter 75" in left handed. The used one I saw was a left handed "Deluxe", and you are probably correct in that they do not make these anymore. Probably could get one from their custom shop, but would be very expensive. Of course, the best way would be to call a certified Sako dealer and find out for certain.
