S&W Serial Nos. Da Revolvers(modern)

Where Can I go to check serial numbers to ascertain when gun was mfg'd. Some are 20 yrs old and just would like to know. Does COLT have the same service for modern ones?

  Or The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson. Ideally both if your really interested in Smith's.
  
  If you just have a few pistols that you've acquired use the email icon at the top of this reply and send me the S/N's and I'll give you the dates, but bear in mind that some dates will be ranges rather than specific years because of the way Smith does S/N's.

  Used to be, you could call S&W at 800-331-0852 for approximate dates. Don't know if they still offer that service over the phone or not. No harm tryin'...
  
  Or, you could post partial S/N's here and undoubteldly someone would look up the info in The Standard Catalog of S&W. The book can be purchased from most any bookseller and is probably the best reference for anything S&W related with the 2nd Edition being the better of the two editions.
  
  That said, without obtaining a "factory letter" from S&W, any production date info should only be considered approximate.
