ML puts it around 78 just before they moved to hartford. they were sometimes refered to the last of the good ones. if i had my books, i could narrow it down further for you, but they are 500 miles away. the series went like this.....104/106/107/numbered/ML/SH. hope this helped.

Yes Bobski, that definitely helps. I have the opportunity to pick up this one for $750.00 and there is also a model 106 from 1967 that is almost the same price. Both are mint condition. Would I be better going with the older 1967 model 106?

wow, thats high for the ML or 106. are they new in box? btw...the 106 is 1965/66 ish. what bbls come on them? 5 1/2" bull or 7 1/4" fluted? offer him 600.00 for either one. the reason im wavy is its a common model. even the bluebook may confirm value, market for them isnt high. yes, its a trophy finish, but its not the high lustre finish. and if you shoot it, or if its shot, its will drop a little more in value. if you are going to shoot a hi standard, save some money and get a citation. its all the same gun except for finish.

Is it known how many 106 Trophys were made in the "super-blue" finish? About how much would this finish add to the value of a ANIB example with the 7 1/4" barrel? Don't recall seeing any with the high polish blue sold lately.

One of these is GunBroker if you want to take a look:

    http://www.gunbroker.com/auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=16867439

Both are identical with the 7 1/4" fluted barrel.

I will take your advice on the price. If they won't come down, I will shop around some more. No big hurry. In fact, I didn't even know they made these with the high polish blue. Were the high polish barrels also fluted? If so, I think I'd rather shop around for one of those.

just a reminder, the high lustre or super blue was only done on olympic and slant grip guns. thats 104 series and before. the only exception is the boxed 1-500 olympic comemorative. military frame trophies got a new less than shiny trophy blue polish. i see. the fluted makes them asking 750.00. personally, unless youre not shooting metalic silo's, the 7 1/4" bbl is too heavy. i'd offer at the most 700.00 for them and collect them only. to shoot, i'd go for a 5 1/2" trophy. why are you dead set on the ML style trophy if i may ask? it has a very bad feature that can annoy a shooter. want to know what it is?

Yes, please. Definitely tell me what it is. I used to own a Supermatic Trophy exactly like these and I have always been sorry that I let it go. I like the longer barrel.

But definitely tell me what this annoying feature is please.

the fixed bridge for the rear sight will slice your thumbs fingernail off when you cycle the slide back if youre not careful! and its impossible to pull back the slide in the traditional way by grasping and pulling. you have to push it back from the front. follow me? ML's were noturious for jamming. as the factory began moving to hartford, many ML parts were sent to hartford and guns were assembled there instead of hamden. QA was lacking due to disgrudled employee's being layed off at hamden. you had mad employees putting them together in hamden knowing they were getting pink slips and then cheaper dummies put them together in hartford. and they had a smaller thumb rest on the walnut stocks. look at a 106. its bigger. or at least it should. many ML owners install downgrade wood without buyers knowing, and sell off the prefered old stocks for big ching..$$$. i would rather invest in a 'numbered series' gun for that money. but the 106's are the collectibles. i'd go for the 106 1st. a lot of people say the 107 is the best year because they worked all the bugs out. but ive never had a 106 go bad on me ever, and i use to compete with a 106 tournament and bet the whole days winning on its reputation, and won many a day with it. btw....106's are famous for the brass plug on the back strap. look for it!

I have a customer's 106 military in my shop at this time for cleaning an refitting some aftermarket mags.. It is high lustre blue.
The barrelis 5" and is slab sided with an integral muzzle brake... Where does this fit into the Hi-Standard scheme of things???

if you saw a 102 high lutre and a 106 trophy blue, youd know they arent the same. the 102 finish...you can see yourself in it. not saying you dont know, dont take offense. if it is a 106 with super high lutre, odds are it isnt a factory finish, because that slab sided bbl isnt proper for a 106. what markings are on that bbl? does it say hartford or nothing at all? odds are its an aftermarket which leads me to believe the guns been customized. the only slab sided bbls hi standard made were allen screw based bbls.
