trace a revolver?
anyone know how to find out if a firearm has been sold?
dad had a colt officers model .45 revolver that mom "thinks" he gave to an un-remembered someone to do repairs/refurbishing on.
he died last month so there is no asking him about it.
any ideas how to begin or is it just gone forever?

Virtually impossible...!If You could ever find out, then the Burden of Proof would be on You that it was Something from your Fathers Estate....

Not necessarily a lost cause: contact gun shops and gun smith's, gun show's and post an add in the proper section of your newspaper. Maybe one of your dads friends may know something. If a gunsmith or a gun shop took it in for repairs they by law must log in the serial number and the name of the owner. Hope you have a serial number! If you have dated documentation and it turns up.....
Heck even post the serial number in paper add like this:
"Lost or stolen Colt Officers model .45,
serial number 123456"0
