AR-15 7.62x39 bolt carrier
Hello out there,
I recently acquired an AR-15 in 7.62. There are some parts missing as in the charging handle, bolt and bolt carrier. I know the charging handle is easy to procure. The bolt, at least an original Colt, may be a trifle harder. I did manage to get a DPMS bolt. My question is: Which type of bolt carrier did the rifle come with, a black phosphate or chrome? This is a very early model 6830 as in ser#00xx. It does have the internal block, so it is postban. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Pete

I'm currently about 8,000 miles away from my own 7.62mm Colt AR (I'm in Sofia Bulgaria at the moment) but I can tell you that the 7.62mm carriers are identical to any other Colts and are phosphate finished and only the bolt head (to accept the larger cartridge rim) is different between the two calibers. It should also be pointed out (again) that the presence of the internal block in Colt AR-15/Sporter rifles in no way what so ever indicates post/preban because this block was introduced by Colt in 1990 when the AR-15 was replaced for civilian sales by the new Match Target rifle (four years prior to the 1994 Crime Bill). My own 7.62mm Colt AR has the internal block (as do a number of my actual Post ban AR-15 restricted sales samples) but my rifle would be considered preban since it was fitted with a threaded muzzel and flash hidder OEM, but no bayonet lug. It is my understanding that Colt never offered an AR rifle in the 7.62mm caliber which was fitted with a bayonet lug.
