source for paper cartridges??
This may seem odd in today's day and age, but I am looking for a source of paper blackpowder cartridges for use in 1851 navy. Anyone know a company or reloader who might sell either whole cartridges or at least the components (like combustible paper) to make them myself.
Thanks

Good to see an individual that "can do" for himself. If you will go to the geocery store and buy some potassium nitrate (saltpeter) from the spice section, get some notebook paper and a tray for soaking, you can make your own paper.
Pour the potassium nitrate into a pan of water, mix well. put your paper in a few sheets at the time. Agitate until completely soaked. Remove and let dry individually.
There you have nitrated paper.

I use onion-skin paper for nitrated paper cartridges made just as p3skyking suggests. The onion-skin paper is also good for paper patched bullets, altho I really haven't made enough of them to be good at it yet. Emery

Dixie Gun Works sells the nitrated paper if you don't want to make your own. You can also use cigarette paper. It combusts fully and has the advantage of having a gummed edge to work with. When I had a .54 cal. breechloader, I would glue two together. Imagine you could get by with cutting just one down to size for an 1851 Navy. 0
