The slide on my .48acp Colt Series 70 Government Model keeps locking back during firing. I've tried replacing magazine to no success. I though it might be I'm not holding it right but that doesn't seem to the case either. Might it be the slide stop spring?
Anyone have any ideas why this is happening?

Staind, Look at the springfield loaded series, very good for the money.

You'd need room for one hundred posts to hash this out.
My Colt was my first BIG gun, and then I got another..love the machining.

I have the base model, the 01091... 1991Series_O1091_SMALL.jpg

I found my Colt 40S&W to be a great shooter.
But the 5" brl was more accurate.

Since .40 and 10mm are similar, there may be merit in a gun with interchangable barrels in these calibers.

Bambihunter knows all the guns which are easy to swap barrels to get the 10mm and another caliber.

The Springfield Champion is a good looker. Both these manufacturers have lifetime warranties with the original owner.

If money is an issue, get one of the Argentina clones, well made and parts are inter changeble with Colt. Go for the .45. Ammunition is a lot cheaper, a better selection, easier to shoot (less recoil) and the 1911 will last a lot longer with .45 than with 10mm. There have been issues with 10mm cracking 1911 frames.

Colt, Kimber, Springfield, Dan Wesson.....all are fine, moderate priced 1911s.

I have heard good things about the Springfield.

I have several 1911's and a love affair with them, most of mine are USGI pistols.
I would also explore the possibility of getting a used gun like the Sistema Colt those are fine guns, I own one of them and it performs without any problems.
    I paid 350.00

I measured it and cut it twice, and it's still too short!

I would go with the Kimber, because they are made in America, and they are great guns for the money. If money is no object, get a Wilson. That's just my $.02
