The Pattern 14 was made for the British. Contract were let for its manufacture by three American firms. These were Winchester, Remington, and Eddystone. The latter was a Remington subsidiary. Reminton of Delaware. thus the ERA. The plant at Eddysone, Pennsylvania, later became a part of the midvale Steel & Ordnance Corporation. These are fine actions not to be confused with the 1917 Eddstone action that had some problems. I have used these actions to build several big magnums, from he 460 weatherby to the 300 H&H, and the last two were a 300 RUM and 338 RUM. They do take more work than most other military action to make a fine looking sporter, but are very strong.

Thanks to those who took the time to answere. I always felt it stood for Remington Eddystone Arsenal and feel much more confident now that you guys reiterated authoritatively on this one! The wood on mine is a tiny bit whooped but it shoots like nobodies business!! Doubt I'll ever sporterize it although it is nice to know this action would take the kind of pressures generated by up to the 460 caliber. While I'm at it, do you think a supplied action (would get one from Sarco(inc)) would handle the 577 Bibumafu(sp) round? Also realize I would have to put about a half gallon worth of mercury reducing tubes in the butt however it sounds like a neat round... just in case the white rhino's ever escape from Brookfield zoo! Will the mag well accept this conversion? Thanks again for the info and helpful advice!!

I'm not familiar with that caliber/cartridge, I did barrel one for the 30-40 krag so the ouner could shoot that caliber. and another to the 25 krag AI. Can't help you on the 577.

Hi Geri, and thanks again. The Bibumafu is a proprietary cartridge I read about in Cartridges of the World. Supposed to work at 416 Rigby pressures while producing something like 70% of 50 BMG muzzle energy. Actually not too sure of the bore diameter of the designation...I'll have to check and get back to you.
