Recently picked up a M-1 rifle and wonder if it is a "collecter
grade" or not and its value. Reciever is # 36566**. No electra engraving on leg. Barrel is 3 SA 3 45. Op rod # D35382 9SA. Trig assy
    is D28290 18 SA. Hammer # C46008 7 SA Safety SA 11. Follower assy 12.
Bolt D28287 19 SA B 18. Lock bar rear sight. All metal finish is about
95 percent. Bore is bright and shinny. TE of 2 and MW of 1. Stock
has SA and under it in a box and crossed cannons next to it. The letter
P in a circle is on the pistol grip front. I fired only 3 clips of
L.C. '69 through it to check it out for function and sight it in as it
appears almost unfired cond. Have the papers with it from DCM back in
the 1980's where he purchased it and never fired it.

Not sure I understand your description of the stock markings. I would need to see some high quality digital photos & have a lot more details, but nothing you said sounds wrong. There's a good chance that it is all original, but I can't be sure at this point.

    Joe,
Mark Christian will answer you with a lot of what you're looking for when he see's your post. The barrel was made in March of '45.

I can tell by looking at the trigger guard it's a stamped trigger guard, which is the 'late' version.

What's the make of the receiver? It will be just above the serial number.

Now, if I can just find my Scott Duff book before Mark replies, I'll look like I know waht I'm talking about.

    Joe,

I still haven't found my book, but did some searching online. Your garand is a Springfield, made sometime in Sept.-Oct. '41. Since it was rebarreled in March of '45, it isn't original throughout.

As far as value, someone better than I am needs to look at it in person.

    Hope this helped.

Rebel James: I used *'s for the last two of the serial numbers. From
my info gathered the reciever was made within a month of the barrel.
Mar or Apr. '45. Doubt it would be a rebarrel. Yes, I neglected to
include the "Springfield" in my first post.
