Which would you buy just to have and shoot with; Moisin-Nagant or SKS? I can buy the Moisin-Nagant for $109 and the SKS for $129.
I'm not really up on either of these two rifles, and would appreciate a little feedback on these two. Positive AND negative.

I don't have either one, but want a Mosin-Nagent for my WW2 collection.
If I was just interested in shooting, I'd get the SKS.

For just a fun knockaround, the SKS. For hunting, collecting, or accuracy, the Mosin.

I have a Mosin Model 1938, which is smaller than the original, its fairly compact. It is suprisingly accurate, I was quite surprised, its a blast to shoot. I paid $79 for mine.

For essentially the same money the SKS is a lot more machinery. 0 -
SKS just for fun. [8D]

SKS for shootin, Mosin for lookin at.[:p] 0 -
The SKS has a chrome lined bore, the Mosin bare steel. With surplus ammo it is alot easier to keep the SKS clean. The SKS is a blast with cheap ammo, and ask any Nam vet it is not the worst assault rifle ever produced, even if it is not a AK47. 0 -
"...buy them both...' That'd be what I would do. It's like deciding between an 03A3 Springfield and an M-1 Carbine. Pick one. Both are fun to shoot and if you can have both, go for it. You're buying two totally different rifles. But there's no comparison. If you can buy 'em both, do it. The Moisin will shoot better but the SKS will be more fun. You're trying to compare a bolt action battle rifle with a stop gap semi-auto carbine, both of which were designed to be issued to illiterate conscripts. If your finances lets you have both, do it. You really won't be disappointed. 0 -
SKS!No contest there.

I have both. The Mosin is pretty and sits most of the time. I paid $60 at BIG 5 for an M44 with matching serial numbers. I got lucky. The unlined barrel is a pain to clean. Wolf ammo leaves a lot of copper in the lands.
The SKS is for shooting AND can be EASILY customized to suit you. Williams makes drop-in peep/fire sights, there are numerous muzzle brake/flash hiders, recoil buffers, mag conversions, stocks, etc. available. They are very reliable, can be very accurate, and most of all very cheap to shoot.
Just my 2 cents.0
