Colt m4, .223-5.56 question.
I have a new (civilian model) post ban M4. The reciever says .223. The Colt website lists the M4 civilian as .223, the L.E. and Military as 5.56. The barrel on my M4 says "5.56 NATO 1-7". The thing I don't understand is why this is listed as a .223, with a 5.56 barrel? Is this the same barrel as the L.E. and Military? What is different in the receiver (besides full auto)? The more I read into the .223-5.56 issue, the more I am confused.

this was addressed recently. The chamber dimensions on 5.56 are larger than .223, so you can shoot 223 in 556 chamber with slight velocity loss, but shooting 5.56 in 223 chamber can cause unsafe pressure.

Yes. I know that, that's not what my question is about.

In the reciver the only difference between civilian and military is the military is milspec parts and the military has 3 round burst. Now to your barrel. The best thing to do is gauge your barrel and find out if someone made a mistake at the factory with the marking or if it is chambered for 5.56. Hope this helps.
