Smith&Wessons performance center i'm sure could help you. I wouldnt think that you could convert a 45acp to 45lc. The cylinder is probably too short to accept a 45lc. Maybe if you stretch the frame but then you would be better off buying a 45 long colt revolver. 0 -
You will at least need a new cylinder because the 45acp model uses half moon clips. The total head thickness of the 45ACP + clip is greater than the head thickness on the 45Long so the 45Long can't seat on the cylinder or the firing pin wouldn't reach it.
The frame should be long enough but the cylinder cutout may not be.
If this is the case, the barrel may need trimming on its' rear end for the new cylinder to fit.
The 45ACP in a revolver is a pain because the thick uncrimped casemouth hangs up on the entrance of the chamber while loading, making chambering slow.
The 45Long can be a pain on ejecting because of its' tiny rim. It was originally designed to be pushed out by a rod not pulled out by the rim. You may find the extractor slipping out of engagement when the brass is halfway out unless the muzzle is pointed up.0 -
if its a 5in barrel, you could just sell it to me and buy a 45 LC [8D] 0
