Condition is a big thing, but I can't begin to tell you how much else is involved...
1. Tell me about the patchbox. Brass inleted into the wood? Plain or
fancy... Or just a grease hole or simple oval brass door?
2. Inlays on the stock... Silver? Brass? Ivory? How many? Quality?
3. Carvings?
4. Percussion or flint?
5. Barrel length? Three brass ferules for the ramrod. Are they equal
in distance from each other, or is the one at the muzzle a bit
closer to the middle?
6. Tiger Maple or plain wood?
7. Makers name or initials?
Tell me everything and I'll try to help. Just too many things to guess at because the gun could be almost worthless or command upwards of $20,000. It all depends.

Dave You've not given any information to go on!!!!!!A complete and total Discription is needed...Percussion or Flintlock..? Also for you're information...Percussion came after Flint...Percussion was introduced in 1836 with the advent of Sam Colts Patterson Pistol here in the U.S.----
Discribe the Lock...in every detail..Letters, Numbers, Engraving...or at the very least post a Couple of Photos...Barrel...Smooth Bore or Rifled? Round or Octagon? or both?
Wood? Walnut? Maple????? Escution Plates, Patch Box? Butt Plate? Iron or Brass? Caliber? Sights? I/2 Stock or Full Stock..? The List go's on...Keep in mind...I/We can only see thru your eyes...So..make your discription full and consise!!! Oh by the way..Pennsylvania was a part of the Kentucky Territory....I/We await your pleasure....best....Captain Kirk

he said it has been in our familey for around 200 years. it is a caplock.he said he thinks its a 36 cal. it has a long barrel, the stock is like curly maple.has brass inlay.the stock has hearts and teardrops on it. oatchbox lid.octagon barrel.london warrend eed lock assembly? also has set triggers.somthing like fancy scroll work on the patchbox cover. the lid is missing on the patchbox lid though.he said he would get his wife to get it for him b.c he can hardly walk..
i copied the stuff you guys asked me so i can read it to him b.c we only have one phone line. so ill call him with evrything you guys asked me... the gun isnt in good conditon it does need some restoration. ill get nmore on it if i can and write it back to you tonight..

What the Captain stated is correct and the extra info helped. Also one thing that will help as much as anything is pictures. Pictures of the complete rifle pictures of the lock, all markings, and measurements as to length. One thing important is any names or initials on barrel, lock, or any where else. Being it is a caplock now does not mean that at one time it could have been a flintlock. They did do conversions on Flintlocks in later years. Picture speak volumes as to helping you out in finding out what it is and worth.
