FN-FAL Question

    Please never use the words FN (Fabrique National) and Hesse in the same sentence because FN, the original manufacturer, is the top of the line for the FAL series. Hesse has a very poor reputation for quality and their AR and AK type rifles tend to be held in very low regaurd by must shooters-- including yours truely. At least one of our members: Bigdaddy Jr., took a look at the Hesse FAL types and reported he was less than impressed with their quality (something about Campbell's soup cans used to produce the receiver). Hesse is long gone and was reborn as Vulcan Arms and this new firm is not honoring any warranty or repairs from their previous firearms (of which there were many). A few of our members have reported good luck with Hesse rifles (or they do not want to admit that they were duped) so you may have no problems.

    Even a Century reciever is prferable to a Hesse or Vulcan. You will probably need to replace it if reliability is an issue. Respectable names in recievers that I have had good experiences with are DSA, Imbel, Enterprise, Coonan, and FN. Do a search falfiles.com for "hesse" and you will find your answer.

    Hello Guys;
    Thanks for the input. As I previously stated, Hesse was a name I had not seen before, I appearently now know why. The rest of this rifle is FN. I suppose if it begins to have problems, I'll put it in an FN reciever I have on hand. This reciever must be the exception to the rule, it is well made, well finished and very well fitted. But this functions perfectly, so I'll leave it "as is" for now. Thanks again for the info, you guys can always be relied upon for the straight dope in these matters.

    Hesse makes mistakes every now and then; your FAL and my AK are apparently the only ones that function reliably.
    I'm not real happy with the other receivers I've seen from them, but they must have had a really high employee turnover; some are assembled well, and others are, well, assembled. I've seen oversized holes for the rivets/pins, nasty welding, extra machining where none was needed, and the worst (but still firing)one I saw was an AK with sheetmetal that looked like it had been formed over a 2X4 with a framing axe.

    If you know it all; you must have been listening.<br>WEAR EAR PROTECTION!
