597 Rem 17 cal.

Have a 597 Rem. in the 17 cal after the second shot the safety comes on automatically has anyone had any experience with this

  No experience with the .17 hmr, but I have shot a 597 in .22 lr quite a bit. This certainly sounds like a malfunction to me. I would contact Remington to see how they prefer to handle the repair. Or, if it's brand new, you might be better off to talk with the dealer about exchanging the malfuctioning rifle for another one.

  I have a Remington 597 in .17HMR with the heavy barrel and have had no malfunctions so far. About 200 rounds through my gun and it seems to be quite accurate. I'm pleased with it.
