Colt Official Police
Any idea of when my ex-police officer gun was made? It is a Colt Official Police .38spc. The serial # 871004 and it wears a 4 inch barrel. You guys have been so helpful in the past I just had to find out this info because I love the gun. Thanks in advance

The Colt Official Police is a very strong gun. Plus P ammo is not a lot hotter than the regular stuff out there in the same chambering. However, I'm not sure why you want to do this. Any gun will wear much more rapidly when subjected to "maximum" pressures as a steady thing. I'm not sure what the Instruction Manual says for the later models of these, but unless I really had a compelling reason, I would be shooting targets, for instance, with a light target load. Enjoy the shooting more and the gun doesn't know its being used.
However, if it is a "carry" gun and you feel more comfortable with loading in some "personal protection +P stuff" for carry purposes, then do it. I personally believe the nicer I am to a gun, the longer it will serve me. I would NOT shoot +P+ stuff in it at all, but I believe you can safely use +P's without a problem. I have shot some pretty hot Corbon 125 grain hollow points through mine with no problem. I don't do it as a steady diet for two reasons. One I explained above, the other is, I can load for about 3 cents a round for target shooting. Makes a lot of difference in the amount of shooting I can do...... Hope this helps!
