See-Thru Scope Mounts

If not needed, take off the see-thru. They add in the height of your scope mount which will change your check weld to the stock. The lower and stiffer the mount the better. Most bases (not rings)are put on with lock-tite and are not too difficult to remove.

If it was me I would take them off and go with as low as I could go keep in mind of what size your scope is. Just take a punch or screwdriver and small hammer and tap on top of the screws that should brake them lose.Just my 2 cents.

I like having the "option" of not using the scope, like when the critter is too close, or the light is not quite right.

SEE THRUS ARE NOT AS RELIABLE AS LOW MOUNTS AND REALY DON'T OFFER A VERY GOOD SIGHT PICTURE EITHER .MORE TIMES THAN NOT THEY WILL EVENTUALLY CAUSE A HEARTACHE AND MAKE A GROWN MAN CRY WHEN HE MISSES THAT TROPHY HE'S HUNTED SO LONG AND HARD FOR.
FACT IS THEY BOTH [SIGHTS & SCOPE]SHOULD BE POINTING AT THE SAME SPOT WHEN YOU USE ONE IT SHOOTS WHERE THE OTHER SHOULD WHEN SIGHTED IN . LINING UP SIGHTS ON A MOVING TARGET OR UNDER A LOW LIGHT SITUATION ISN'T AS EASY AS PUTTING AN + ON THE SAME TARGET . KEEP YOUR SCOPE ON LOWEST POWER IF ITS A VARIABLE POWER FOR A BETTER FIELD OF VIEW AND LIGHT TRANSMISSION . PRACTICE WITH YOUR SCOPED RIFLE , SHOULDER IT AND WORK ON ACQUIRING THE TARGET QUICKLY. KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE TARGET AND BRING THE SCOPE TO YOUR EYE [PUT THE SCOPE BETWEEN YOUR EYE AND TARGET WITHOUT MOVING YOUR HEAD]MOVING YOUR HEAD OVER TO LINE UP YOUR EYE TO THE SCOPE CAUSES YOU TO LOOSE THAT LINE TO TARGET..

I've had see-thrus for years on a 700 bdl, never used the iron sights. I always use the 3-9 scope for shooting. my other rifles all have low mount rings. except a TC muzzle loader inline. They sound really good, but just make the rifle cumbersome by raising your scope and getting it caught on everything. As a tree stand hunter, I like the more compact mount.

For the reasons given by the posters above, ditch 'em.

In addition to above good posts most:
    > Are cheap extruded soft aluminum alloy,
    > Screw slot is tapered but dimensionally not very precise,
    > Use a low Rockwell (hardness)grade screw,
    > " " screw having a tapered head also not dimensionally precise.

So when assembled they often don't seat (pull down) evenly, or accurately, and stress the mounting hole area in which it takes just one good bump to throw off accuracy.

    Happy Bullet Holes!
