lockbar sight on an m1

is the lockbar good or should i get a regular sight?
the knob sometimes comes loose but the sight doesnt move

  It depends.
  
  If you have a substantially original rifle, you may want to keep the lockbar sight on it for collector/resale reasons. Most gunsmiths should be able to reassemble it so that it will adjust easily. Most of them had the shaft staked to prevent the lockbar from unscrewing & becoming lost in combat (the reason they were replaced after WWII).
  
  But, if you have a typical mixed parts rifle, you can certainly replace the sight with the T105E1. You can problem get enough from selling the lockbar parts to pay for the new sight plus installation.
