Bushmaster trigger issues

I have a Bushmaster XM-15 E2S, no frills, model. I wanted a better trigger pull. I ordered a 2-Stage Competition trigger from Bushmaster. Had it installed by a local 'smith. Turns out this is not actually what I wanted. I did not know what a '2-stage' even was. I see DPMS has a single stage adjustable available and I may get that. I will definately test out the Bushy one before I go through the whole process of order/ install again. Anybody have any suggestions that has gone this route before?
Anybody interested in the 2-stage if I do swap 'em out?
