S&W 45 service revolver
I have a S&W 45 service revolver made in 1917, it has markings on barrel in tonnage. Does anyone know why it has this marking? Who put it on? What is pistol worth? Paul

It appears from your description of the markings on the barrel that the revolver was proofed in England at some time. This was done so that it could be sold commercially, as mandated by English law.
At some period after your revolver was manufactured for the military, it was diverted for sale, for civilian use.

It might have been one of the American firearms sent to GB during WW2
for civil defence.0 -
Be careful. Before you shoot it, best determine if it was made for .45ACP or .455 Webley. 0 -
Thanks for info.about S&W 45 service revolver. Mine uses the half moon clips. I fired it when I bought it in 1968 during the Baltimore riots working as part time rent-a-cop.
I have reblued it. It originally had black grips that appeared they had been painted. Rifling is good & shot good when I tested it. Irecently bought new grips, but they are plastic wood. I believe it originally came with ivory grips.0
