TDE 44 automag - a deal?
Dear experts,
I have an oppurtunity to buy a TDE .44 Automag for $1000. It seems like it's in good condition - some scratches here and there. There is only one magazine and no box or original paperwork, and only the 6" barrel.
However, I've been surfing the web a bit and, while $1000 is certainly low for this gun, it seems that most of the other similiar guns either come with more stuff (dies and 12" barrel, original box and paperwork, etc, extra clip) or are in better shape (excellent, rather than "good", hardly fired, etc) and therefore cost more. The S/N is fairly low at 4406 - which he said is a plus.
1k is a lot of money for a gun, and I'm not an afficianado, but it does seem like a pretty good deal. What do you think? Should I bite? Should I get a reputable gun smith to take a gander before making the buy?
Thanks for your help,
Josh

My knowledge is somewhat limited on those so I won't be able to answer your basic question, but from what I've read there is some variance in value due to where the gun was made. As I understand it they were made in 4-5 different locations and guns from certain locations where of more value due to better quality control.
But, you might want to check this site out if you haven't already. There should be link somewhere within the site with regards to a book written about the Automag.

PS, I've always wanted one of of those too!!!!0 -
Beleive it or not I purchased an 44 auto mag Ser. A010XX with 2 full boxes of norma 44 auto mag. All in the original box with the tools and bottle of oil UNFIRED from a dick at the PD where I work. He just did not want it anymore. I had to clean it because the oil broke down the foam and it was a mess and a half[xx(], but WHAT A DEAL and it cleaned up nice. Shot it already also, OUCH.
PS>>>NOT 4 SALE, Don't even ask

You can make out of both 308 or 30-06 or any case with that head size 243, 6 mm rem 25-06, 270rem etc the trouble they are a pain in the ^%$ to make they have to be cut trimmed to lenght then inside neck reamed because the brass is too thick at that point then loaded with a powder that has very very little info in reloading manuals then because of the way the gun locks up you will have a devil of a time trying to cure funtion problems it will jam on too light of a load as well as too hot of a load and then you have to look all over the place for your fired brass. As they say been there done that I have too little time as it is not worth the trouble any more 0
