Barrel measurment???

DIRTYRAT
I need to know the CORRECT way to measure a barrel on a revolver. Do you measure all the way to the cylinder ? or do you measure to the front of the frame for the "Length of Barrel" I have been told both ways and would like to know the correct way! Thanks in advance!

    A revolver barrel is the actual length of the barrel,from the front of the cylinder. A pistol barrel is measured from the breechface to the end of barrel.This is how BATF and manufacturers measure them.

    UNLESS YOU LIVE IN WISCONSIN, HERE THE DNR MEASURES FROM THE MUZZEL TO THE FIRING PIN. SO A 4" BARREL .357 IS A LEGAL DEER GUN.

    I never thought of it this way, but the length of an auto pistol barrel includes the chamber, the length of a revolver barrel does not.
    Correct ?

    If we do not hang together we will certainly hang separately.

    Hello, MIKE WISKEY is correct, here they measure from the firing pin. I don't know why, but they do, and that's cool with me. MIKE WISKEY where do you live in Wisconsin, we might have to go shooting sometime?

    execept for revolver, all bbls are measured from where the back of the primer of a round sits after its inserted into the breech. on a revolver, its where the lands and grooves begin.

    Yep. Revolvers are alone in this. Rifles and shotguns as well as auto pistols all include the chamber.
