HATCHER called it the strongest bolt action ever made, even supior to the ARISAKA TYPE 99. my father owns one, and its a match accuratte well balanced gun. there are usualy several here on GB for sale. its the best kept secret as far as .30-06 bolt guns go. best regards, mike.

Any of them that are necked down to 27 caliber. They are called 270 Winchester. Brand of rifle is of no consequence. All excellent![:D]

It could be argued that the pre 1964 Model 70 Winchester is the finest production rifle ever built, but as you can see from the replies "best" is a matter of opinion. Buy the one you feel the best with. Savage is plain jane, but with a serious reputation for accuracy. Ruger is the Ford or Chevy of rifles. I would look at a post 1993 Winchester 70 or a pre 64 same. Also hard to beat a 700 Remington.

My personal preference is the Win M70 and the Ruger MKII's. As you can tell I'm a big fan of the 3 position safety, always seems safer to have safety on when you are loading and unloading. Both have been accurate for me too. I have a Win M70 with a laminate stock and push feed type action that has hunted hard for nearly 20 years now and has never failed, I've put about 2,000 rounds through it in that time and it still shoots 1" at 100 and an occassional .75" if I'm shooting good. 0 -

Browning A-Bolt W/Boss option.
My Stalker II (.270) doesn't have the Boss, which is fine, but I kinda wish it did,and I love the 60 degree bolt throw.[;)]
