could not locate any info in the S&W Standard Catalog, but as this would have to be a special production run it is possible that a run that small would not be listed.

If you've purchased this revolver your best bet is to get a factory S&W letter that will give you the details. Last time I got a factory letter, several years ago, the price was $25, but it may be a little more now days.

Maybe one of the other members will have some more info for you.

I don't know the story on this one, but I'm quite sure that the story is boring. There are hundreds, maybe thousands, of "special editions" such as this produced by S&W. If you wanted to order 100 guns marked "friggamo commemorative #1 of 500", you could do so. Any individual, group, or distributor can order 1 or more special versions of just about any gun in their current catalog; price will be based on volume & the cost of features & embellishments.

"Special editions" all have 1 thing in common: They are expensive when bought new, but resale price is rarely more than the "plain" version of the gun in similar condition.
