Gun friendly foam?
I have a commerative set of Iver Johnson pistols that came in a wood presentation case that had a strange green foam that the guns were set into. Years ago I had to remove the guns from the box because the foam was deteriorating. I scraped out the rotting foam but would like to put some new foam in the box. I'm concerned about buying some "off-the-rack" foam from a craft shop because of the acids that may be present in it. Is there any "gun friendly" foam product out there or does anyone have a suggestion for me? Thanks.

I don't know the source, but I have been using some foam that we get machine parts packed in to protect from damage during transit/shipping. It is a very tight foam, medium gray, and is very tough. I've been using it in hard cases for my shotguns for a couple of years with no problems, and have two pistol boxes holding a pair of antique S&W revolvers.
If you have a construction equipment rental/sales store in your area, check and see if they handle Soff-Cut brand concrete saws. They are the ones that pack their parts in the foam I use. If they do, ask them to save the foam packing for you. Odds are that they will, and will give it to you also.
Company names to look for in the phone book are Rental Service Corp., United Rentals, Nations Rent, Hertz Construction Rentals, The Cat Store...hope this helps
