Weatherby Rifle Problem
Hi everyone,
I just bought a brand new Weatherby Fibermark in 30-378 Weatherby Mag, brand new Weatherby brass.
I have been loading for several years and have never had this problem without typical pressure signs. I loaded three rounds as follows:
1. Full length sized my brass(brass seemed like it was undersized or had already been sized) as I felt very little resistance when raising the ram on my press.
2. Installed Federal 215 magnum primers.
3. Charged the cases with 98 grains of Hogdon H4831(below max load).
4. Seated Nosler 180 grain Accubond bullets to an overall length
of 3.700
Went to my bench to try the rounds out. Shot round one and the case was stuck in the chamber, finally got the action open and the brass ejected. I expected to see a flattened primer, cratered firing pin indent, split case, etc. Nothing but scratch marks from the chamber right above the belt. Fired the other two rounds and the same thing happened. The 98 grain load is below what several of my load books give. I can not understand what is causing the shells to stick in the chamber with no other signs of high pressure.
Has anyone else here had this problem with Weatherby rifles or any other brand? Does anybody have any suggestions?
Thanks for any advice in advance,
Renegade

it happens with any make of rifle. You have a "high spot" in the chamber. It may not have been cut straight or there is an area which was not cut to the correct diameter. Had that happen on a friends 300wm rifle a while back,...the gunsmith touched her with a reamer and cut the highspot out,...done deal.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

Try fireforming a case, and/or slug the chamber to accurately compare case-chamber dimensions.
Check bolt face for concentricity easiest to do. If ok move on.
Another field trial is to lightly coat a unprimed & unloaded (no powder)cartridge and bullet seated with a fine lapping compound, or use Simethicone a fine polishing paste available thru motorcycle, automotive, and some hardware stores.
Open - Close bolt a dozen times. You'll see where the dimensional problem is. Have 'cleaned up' chambers this way if it's "just a hair" off.
But if you see a substantial amount of 'polished brass' both in depth and length, it needs to be reported to Wby, and they'll provide a authorized service center for warranty work.
