I think what everyone means is practice ammo meaning light loads. To me practice or training ammo means no powder or primer. When the SKSs first came out they sold dummy ammo that you could demonstrate how the gun functioned without using live ammo.Just my two pennys.

Do you think a bullet with no powder would blow up a gun??? I buy Winchester 9mm at Wal-Mart,(CHEAP!) thought thats the type of ammo they were talking about???[:D][:D]

The term "training ammo" is a bit of a misnomer. I presume they mean light target or plinking loads.

Some training ammo was loaded with wood bullets and a shredder attachment was added to the end of the barrel and splinter to wood. Another type of training ammo used plastic bullets.

This allowed to fire the long weapon (rifle) without requiring a large facility.

The term is also starting to be associated with non-lead, frangible, stuff used predominately in LE training (range) facilities, and I beleive that this ammo even has certified "lead-free" primers.

The term is pretty wide open and can be applied to a wide variety of ammo ... take for example the military "blue" ammo ... it's classified as a training round, but that is typically a little bigger than I think your talking about, just an example of another applications of the term.

An additional reason some ammo is designated "For Training Use Only" is that it failed inspection. Some lots have too much variation in velocity, accuracy, or bad primers. It is not suitable for service use, but is fine for training. Obviously any that is hazardous (squib, hangfire, etc.) would be scraped.
