Colt DA .41 cal revolver, please help!
I have a Colt DA .41 cal revolver that has a 3 digit serial number. The last patent date is 1888. I don't have the gun in front of me, so I don't have a whole lot of info. The patent # is 490 on the cylinder swing and on the frame where the cylinder swings into. The butt of the handle has a 5 digit #, something like 17065 or so. Can anyone give me any info on what the value might be(I know it's not a lot of info)or if it is navy issued or why there would be two different #'s on the gun? Thanks.

I have # 445 on the frame under the crane and
147
945 on the butt
I have no idea why they are numbered that way
Mine doesn't have a pat. date on it.
Only Colt .41 DA
BTW Mine is 95% Nickle and I paid $50 for it

The "Navy" was first issued in 1889 and I believe all of them were 38 cal.
What you may have is a later production 1877 Thunderer which were mfg. from 1877 to 1910.
To get the s/n and value properly cleared up you may need to get a Colt Letter and I think they go for between $75 and $100. However if your revoler is in top condition regardless of model your looking at a value of $1,500+ so the letter would be worth it and probabaly even add some value to the piece.

From the pix posted working from first to last:
Colt Double Action Army on top and Colt Lightening/Thunderer.
WRF's post is a little harder because one of the main visual ID features is the grip and I can't make out the detail so it's either a New Army Model of 1892 or the Colt Army Model of 1903 sans lanyard ring.
All super specimens and should make it pretty easy for Zoso to pick the model that resembles his.

very similar to 22wrf (blue instead of nickle). Thank you very much. A friend of mine says his book values it at about $1000 to $1500, so you got a good buy for $50 bucks if that is the case(with serial numbers under 1000). 0
