Import of inherited guns (normal hunting guns)
In theory, if someone (US Citizen) inherited or was given some guns from someone outside the US, what has to be done to import the guns legally? Normal hunting guns (ie, Winchester Mod 70 30.06, Rem Wingmaster,...), not collector items, no handguns, no machine guns or anything restricted or banned.

Thanks. I read Form 6 description on the BATF site, and it described importation by a non-resident alien in several places, so I wasn't sure if I was on the right track. Appreciate the help! 0 -
If you are in the US, it is simple enough if you use a licensed firearms importer who will fill in the BATF 6 and arrange with the exporter to get it sent to them. Easiest is via airmail to this importer, preferably insured. The BATF 6 forms (once approved) are sent to the exporter by the licensed importer to place in an envelope on the outside of the package and marked "US Customs Documents". The exporter may have to get export permission from the country it's being exported from. Takes about 3 months to get BATF 6 forms in and approved and sent to exporter. Then airmail as described above to the importer. They will then arrange for it to be sent to you, either directly if law permits or to a FFL near you. The importer may charge a fee. if you need someone let me know, I can get you someone who charges $50 for 5 guns or less, or $10 a gun for 5 or more. I'm at pladzone@dodo.com.au 0
