Springfield Armory "L" desingation on 1911
I am looking for the definition of the "L" designation on the 1911 pistols. Specifically what does it mean and what features if any as I am bidding on one now.
Thanks,
Greg

Para ordnance and Beretta use an LE and an L (and other designations) to signify law enforcement models, typically hi-capacity handguns.
I couldn't find antthing specific on their website; all of the models I checked ended with "L" on the model number.

could it be "loaded"? They advertise their guns as the "loaded" series.

I have a 1911 of theirs and the first two symbols of the serial number are "NM". A gun shop guru told me it meant I had a National Match frame. I called Springfield to confirm. They told me that it was just the serial number and coincidentally started with those two letters. They are based in Genesco, IL. Give them a call if you're curious. 0
