35WSL
The Rookie asks...Is .35WSL or .401caliber for a self loading semi auto Winchester hard ammo to find or is it common enough and inexpensive enough to purchase such a gun to have the fun of shooting?

Hello Rookie...
It is not overly difficult to find, but it is not cheap. That said, there are several outfits the specialize in obselete ammo that have it (Old Western Scrounger is one). I was fortuante enough to inherit about 400 rounds of ammo with my Model 1905 35 SL, and reloading for it is easy enough (but you do have to strictly load to the factory specs). The other issue is shooting it somewhere that brass recovery is optimum... my gun spews brass all over the place.

If you consider 1.25 a shot plinking ammo, than go for it.
Are you looking at the 35 SLR or the 351 SLR? Two different cartridges.
32 and 35 SLR were offered in the 1905, 351 SLR in the 1907, and 401 SLR in the 1910.
Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.0 -
Also, be aware that the .32 & .35 SLR are underpowered for deer, and the .351 SL is barely adequate for deer. This pretty much relegates them to expensive plinking. 0 -
Thanks to all..........I'll steer clear!
