The 6mm is the same power and performance as the 243. The 243 was better marketed and it over took the 6mm. Value depending on condition and what part of the country you sell it in, unless you sell off the internet. $200-$350. HOWEVER, it is a sought after gun for a kid or woman to use as a white tail deer gun. That is the way to market it and get a better price. Bruce

Just thought I would add that if you reload, the 6mm is easier to reload than the 243...different neck angle and less likely to shove the neck back into the case when seating bullets. And if you know where there is some empty 7mm brass lying around, simply resize the neck, anneal, trim and you're in business.

A friend will post your bail. A good friend will be sitting next to you in the cell saying, "man that was fun!"

Before you buy a 742, check the interior wall of the reciever for damage. The bolt on these guns has a bad history of eating into the wall and eventually destroying the rifle.[:(]

All the above but especially what bigcountry said. I've seen two or three of these come in while I've been looking around at gun shops and bigc. is right, they become wall hangers. A lot depends on how much they are shot, how big/hot a cartridge, and the care they've had, but apparently it eventually, with time/wear will get them all.
Most deer guns don't get a big workout so it may go years/generations before it happens, but do check the receiver.

Buy it if it's under $300. They made very few in this caliber and are going to be collectables. My guys in NYS have been using the 742 since the sixties and nobody yet has ever had one to a gunsmith. They just keep workin'. At this price you can always get you money back at gunbroker.

If they only made a little rubber buffer for these.....

Would keep the bolt and firing pin from nailing the back of the receiver.

What Bigcountry said,I have seen "Mint" condition 742's that were
Destroyed by bolt chatter,The Remington 742 is a Very nice rifle
I love the way it points and feels, Just have it checks by a good gunsmith before you Buy it.
